Sony W Series TV Reviews
My first impression when I first turned on the Sony W Series TV was WOW! The picture is so beautiful and bright so you can even watch during the day time. The Sony W series TV comes with the option to auto-adjust using ambient light which works really well. Watching old DVDs via the this Sony W series TV is like watching brand new movies...I'm comparing this to watching on a 1080i 37" non-Sony HDTV that I owned for almost a year. Picture contrast, brightness, color, etc. comes with preset modes like Vivid, Standard, Custom and Cinema. You can change any of these settings to suit your liking. It's easy to reset Vivid, Standard and Cinema back to factory default setting.
The audio in the Sony W series TV is pretty good but I prefer listening via my audio system. For this, the Sony TV has a toss-link optical output that I prefer.
I have had this Sony W series TV for 5 months now and couldn't be any happier. This set delivers outstanding picture quality, excellent black levels and vibrant colors. The new Bravia Engine 2 also upgrades with 120Hz motion processing from Sony XBR line. My Sony W series TV is situated in a well lit room so the semi-matte screen was necessary. This Bravia LCD HDTV features many useful settings to give you the full freedom of making it truly yours. The PQ on 1080p is phenomenal with blu-ray movies or games. Broadcasted 1080i/720p HD sources look very good also - it really all depends on your provider and signal strength. SD quality is nice but again it depends on the channel.
For everyday use, the Sony W series TV will receive immediate props for its' picture delivery from anybody. If you enjoy sports, expect unrivaled video processing of fast paced action. If you like watching movies, the Sony W series TV has a combination of settings to complement the true 24p cinematic picture.
Since blu-ray movies are still pricey I have tested a lot of normal DVD's on my PS3 - and I have to tell you, those DVDs look better than HD broadcasts from Comcast. It's almost unreal when you can watch older movies with such clarity as if they were filmed just a few years ago.
I'd be the first to complain and I never write reviews to rave, this is unusual for me.
Outstanding Picture, bright, lifelike color representation. Without mentioning a word most everyone that watches the Sony W Series TV makes comments on how great the picture is. Almost hard to believe. I also have a relatively new LCD (Samsung and Samsung DLP) and a Plasma (Panasonic) set. HD on the Sony W series TV makes HD on the others look like Standard Definition.
THow the Sony W series TV displays motion is unlike any other set I have seen or owned, very cool experience to watch a scene pan left or right. The BRAVIA Sony W series TV doesn't look like TV, it looks like HD film.
Intuitive remote and menus, easy to plug and play with most any hook up and source. I have a Playstation 3, Pre-Amp, Cable Box, and Apple Computer all hooked up to my Sony W series TV, it took minutes and it all worked painlessly. You can even label each port using the interactive TV menu. Could not be simpler to use this, very natural and simple system. When switching sources they are listed by both port AND source, for example "HDMI1 Cable, HDMI2, Game, HDMI3 PC etc".
Easily blows Samsung setup and menus away, The Sony W series TV makes the Samsung interface seem clumsy, complicated, and unattractive. I have had 2 Samsungs and am very happy to have bought a Sony W series TV this time. Obviously the picture is more important than the setup and interface, again the Sony picture is preferred as is the non glare screen. I also think the remote design is terrific, good size and layout.
The design of the Sony W series TV is extraordinary, beautiful work all around. Sony was at the forefront for MANY years and started to lose traction to Panasonic and Samsung. Sony is back...
After a lot of research and local store visits for side by side comparisons, I decided to get the Bravia Sony W series TV as my first ever HDTV. This Bravia LCD HDTV is gorgeous to look at even when it's not on, and the display is fantastic.
My decision came down to the Sony W series TV, or the Samsung. That said, my room has pleny of windows and natural light, so the glare would be horrendous on the Samsung. The Sony W Series TV is a pleasure to watch, night or day.
Highly recommended LCD HDTV. Its a Sony...you just cant go wrong.
